Venus Class

Blast off!

In Venus class children worked in partners to produce a rocket. Children used different 3d shapes and decorated it. Also, children have been counting and recognising numbers from 1 to 20.

A Bear Hunt for Venus Class
On Wednesday 16th November 2005 Venus class visited the Bear Factory at the Merry Hill Centre.

At the Bear Factory the children had the opportunity to choose their own class bear, name him, watch him being made and finally getting the chance to dress him. The children were involved in every process, even getting the chance to operate the machine that stuffed the bear.

They also had the pleasure of greeting and meeting Ted the bear. As it was Ted’s 30th birthday the children all decided to sing him a song.

After visiting the Bear Factory the children and staff all got a chance to visit the local McDonalds for their lunch.

All the children and staff from Croft Community Primary School enjoyed their day.

Road Safety is Easy Thanks to Kerbcraft
The children at Croft Community Primary school are once again benefiting from the expertise from the Kerbcraft organisation. Kerb Craft is a national project and their aim is to teach our children the skills they need later on in life when they become independent road users.

Three important skills are learnt by the children:

Skill 1: To find a safer place to cross the road

Skill 2: To find a strategy for crossing safely between parked cars

Skill 3: To find a way of crossing safely at junctions.

Last year saw the school participate in the project for the first time and we now have a fully trained class, who know all about safety on the roads. Thanks to the help of the staff at Kerbcraft and Miss Gill, Miss Kausar, Mrs Begum and Mrs Hussain at the school for all their efforts last year.

Also not to forget all of the parent who have also helped out, without their help the important road safety lessons would never of taken place. With the help of everybody in the project it has been very successful
It certainly looks like its fun to learn about road safety thanks to the team at Kerbcraft. I bet this years Venus class and the parents will enjoy learning the new skills as well.

Check out http://www.hedgehogs.gov.uk/main/main.html for information about keeping safe on roads. Plus there are loads of things to do to help the children keep safe.

Please Contact Linda Downing on 01922 652531 or 07834 335492, if you are a prospective volunteer, or for information about how Kerbcraft could help support your school.

Look out for more news about Kerbcraft with this years Venus class. # Posted by Mr. Prosser at 16/11/05; 2:30:24 PM to the Venus Class dept.
