Sports Football
The start of a new year always gives the children a chance to represent our school in the football team.
Yesterday we played 3 games in one evening giving the chance for the whole squad to get a game.
With the staff, children and parents on the side lines ready to cheer the children on the first of our three games started.
Croft 0 v Hillary Primary School 2.
The game started well with both teams evenly matched, although Croft were soon on the defensive foot. Hillary continued to attack with the Croft defence finally breached just before half time, 1-0 to Hillary Street.
The second half started with Croft being more adventurous, but we were caught on the counter attack and conceded a second goal.
The team feeling a little bit down after losing the first game were given instructions for the second game and a tactical change saw Aazib move from defence to a striker. And what a change that was.
Croft 2 v St. Mary's 1.
The game started with St. Mary's looking a very good team, they had attack after attack and if it was not for the good defending from Adam and Adris they would have scored. Then just before half time Croft were defending deep and St. Mary's took the lead, but surprisingly a quick change by Croft saw Sarah replace Rumel and resulted in Sarah setting Aazib up for Crofts first goal in a football game for two years. Half time 1 - 1.
Half time changes took place with Hakkeb and Dhanak coming into the team. The second half saw St. Mary's doing most of the attacking until a good flowing move by the two subsitutes saw Aazib through on goal to score Crofts second goal. Then the move of the evening, Sarah being chase by two St. Mary's players looking to score an equalise, she put her foot on the ball, turned and pass the ball out of danger with the two opposing players still scratching their heads wandering what had happened. A nervy two minutes saw Croft hold on to win the game. Well done !
With one loss and one win for Croft it was on to the final game, the news of a Croft win must have spread to the community as more supporters turned up for the final game
Croft 1 v St. Patricks 2.
As usual both teams started brightly and both had shots on goal, but it was a well set up move from St. Patricks which saw them score first. But Croft again showed some dtermination to come back and score just before half time. Half time 1 - 1.
Second half started and both teamed were evenly matched, with St. Patricks having slightly more shots at goal. As it all looked to be heading for a draw, a deep cross into the box was headed in by St. Patricks to take a 2-1 lead. Final Score 1-2.
The staff football games were played in great spirit on such a warm day.
Game 1: Croft Staff 1 v 1 Croft friends and family (Crofo crew)
This game went to extra time and finished a very respectable draw. Both teams having chances to score goals, but both goal keepers playing well to keep the scores level.
The game started well with Mr Dickson having a shot for the staff team with the ball going over the bar, over the fence, over the house and narrowly missing a low flying aeroplane (New ball please). The next staff attack saw a low cross into the box where Mr. Prosser put the ball into the back of the net from around 2 inches out. 1-0 staff.
The second half saw the friends and family team play some great football scoring a goal to force the game into extra time.
5 minutes of extra time went quickly with no more goals scored although there were a few long range shots by both teams.
Game 2: Croft Staff 2 v 1 Croft Pupils
With the staff looking very tired the children saw the chance to possibly embarrass them and they almost did.
Game started with a quick goal for the staff with Mr. Dickson scoring from a low cross. 1-0 to the staff. The staff saw the chance to take advantage of the lead and maybe double it, but shot after shot went wide.
The children did not give up, they went close a couple of times before eventually scoring an equaliser early in the second half, the goal was scored by Anil. 1 - 1
On the next attack the staff put a good passing move to score their second goal, again Mr. Dickson on the end of a low cross to score.
Another great but tiring game.
The staff team was Mr Dickson, Mr. Prosser, Mr. Spicer, Matt and Steve.
Many thanks to the referee who was Mrs Gum's dad.
Croft had lots of support from parents, children at the school, teachers and old pupils who used to come to the school. This support was appreciated by the children, thank-you.
The game started brightly with St. Giles very quickly having a shot at goal, luckily Moqeet made a great save. This was the same for most of the first half, Moqeet making great saves and our defenders Adam, Ifran and Adris making some fine tackles. St. Giles scored two quick goals from long range.
After half time break Croft quickly had a chance to score but a good tackle allowed St. Giles to score for the third time.
Croft continued to have more of the ball and made a couple of promising attacks, but failed to score a goal. St. Giles rounded off a good afternoon for them scoring the fourth and final goal of the game.
Well done St. Giles we enjoyed the game.
After the long winter the Croft football team played their first game of the season against a good Christchurch team.
The game started the way in which we are use to at Croft conceeding three goals in just five minutes. But what happened next nobody could have predicted for a football game - A full blown snow storm - A real blizzard.
By half time the score was 5-0 to Christchurch and the pitch was completely covered in snow.
The second half started brightly for Croft as we scored our first goal for nearly a year. It came from a penalty. Khubaib took the penatly which the keeper saved well, but luckily Khubaib was wide awake and scored the rebound.
The game finished 6-1 to Christchurch.
Lets hope this is the first of many goals for Croft.
Croft Community Primary School 0 St. Patrick’s 1.
A very close game with the team from Croft defending extremely well. It took a late goal from St. Patrick’s to win this game. Croft Goalkeeper Moqeet had to be at his best all game to keep the ball out of the net and with the superb defending from Adam Croft almost got a draw from the game. Crofts best chance fell to Khubaib.
A great effort from the team, well done.
Croft Community Primary School 0 Pinfold Street School 1.
Another close game with Crofts defenders and goalkeeper again the stars of the game. An all round performance meant it was difficult for Pinfold Street to score a goal. The goal was scored towards the end of the game.
Croft Community Primary School 0 Alumwell Primary School 3.
The game was closer then the score seemed. Although most the game Croft was defending for their lives. The defence and the goalkeeper again were on top form with Sarah playing an active role in midfield. One early goal and two late goals saw well fought victory go to the team from Alumwell.
