All the key stage two children from Croft are getting some expert training from fire fighters, they are learning how to become fire safety detectives.
They have learnt some really important lessons, including what to do if your clothes catch fire, stop, drop and roll.
Another experience they got was having a look around a mobile home and planning escape routes. Little did they know once they all got upstairs the whole place would fill up with artificial smoke and they had to get out the home, feeling their way because the smoke meant you could not see a thing.
After they had the chance to spot dangerous items and unsafe electrical equipment around the home. They also looked at how they could make the home safer.
Finally they watched a video about how some silly people ring up the fire service for a joke and how dangerous these hoax calls can be. They saw real life footage of what can happen if the fire service time is wasted.
It was a great day and the children learnt so much. Many thanks to the fire fighters at Walsall Fire Station.
Yesterday the whole school visited The Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton to watch the pantomime of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
That's right over 150 children and nearly 30 adults. The upper circle was full of children from Croft and we were by far the noisiest participators in the crowd.
Four Coaches turned up to take us to the theatre. Coach one left first and in true panto fashion when asked where the second coach was there was a reply of "it's behind you"
With the whole school settled down ready for the performance it began, and many laughs later it was time for a break. The children started to get coats on thinking it had finished and when told to sit down as it hasn't finished they shouted "Oh yes it has".
The children refilled with juice and biscuits and the pantomime continued and guess what in the end Snow White married the prince and they all lived happily ever after.
This pantomime was very special for two children from Croft Community Primary School as they got to go onto the stage with Muddle the Jester who was played by the actor Matt Slack. Danyaal Ahmed and Elisha Adams got to chat to the actor and even had two very important lines to say.
"One smart fellow, he felt smart"
"two smart fellows they both felt smart"
Try saying those lines...did anything happen, try saying three smart fellows they all felt smart and then four and then five. It will happen to you eventually. Well done Elisha and Danyaal, you represented the school brilliantly.
We returned to school at six o'clock so it was a very long day for both the children and staff, but everyone enjoyed themselves so much. Many thanks to all the staff and helpers and also to the children for making the trip so memorable.
Keep an eye out on the website for childrens reviews of the panto. They will be telling you all about their favourite parts.
First they visited a website where they had to control a persons room via a webcam. They were able to turn lights on and off, which must really annoy the person. The website is called www.drivemeinsane.com .
After learning the importance of how electricity and computers are responsible for controlling many things in our life, such as traffic lights, automatic doors and hand dryers, the children then got to grips with some controlling of their own.
They looked at turning a light bulb on and off. As they got used to it they tried out more then one light bulb, the bravest children had up to eight light bulbs under their control at the same time.
After a quick break the children took part in some role play, they were acting as traffic lights. They had to act out the sequence of the traffic lights and with only Mr Prosser and Miss Artwell available as cars, the had to watch the teachers pretend they were cars.
Back to the computers and programming a set of traffic lights for the correct sequence, red followed by red and amber and finally followed by green. Some children really excelled at this task and were able to set the whole sequence on repeat.
After lunch we had time for a little more role play. As traffic lights always works in pairs the children had to act out a crossroads situation. You guessed it, Miss Artwell again pretending she was the car.
The final task, programming the computer to show the sequence for two sets of traffic lights working alongside eachother. Some children were really good at this and found it very easy.
What a brilliant day, who knows one of these children may be responsible for operating the traffic lights near you. I just hope it is someone who listened and solved the task.
Thanks to everybody at Alumwell Business College for a fantastic day and well done year 5 for trying really hard.
PICTURES WILL BE ADDED VERY SOON TO THIS REPORT.
The children had a chance to do lots of exciting activities including a blind trail, cave walk, quad biking, team building activities and climbing the wall.
The teachers favourite activity had to be the blind trail. All the children were blindfolded and had to follow a rope through an obstacle course, the only problem was the children seemed to keep getting wet. Nothing to do with the teachers who were there, even though they did all have buckets of water at their disposal (see even the teachers get a chance to have fun on trips).
The children all looked forward to the quad biking. The route for the quad bike was very bumpy, but the children loved speeding safely around in all the safety gear.
The next activity was caving, lots of spooky stories about the cave, especially watch out for the man with no head. Once the children had made their way through the cave some were brave enough to go back through, but they were to get a bit of a surprise as waiting for them in a dark corner was Mr. Prosser ready to scare them, it scared a couple but most these brave children were unimpressed.
After lunch the children enjoyed some team building exercises on a rope course, the children found it simple enough, it was the adult team of teachers who had the most problems.
The final event was the wall, with everyone kitted up with all the latest safety equipment, two children at a time attempted the wall.
They were all encouraged by the watching children to go as high as they dared, some reached the top, some reached halfway and Mr. Prosser barely made it three steps, never mind.
An excellent day out that all the children enjoyed and in fact even the teachers were smiling.
